The United States presidential election 2008 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2008. It is the 56th consecutive quadrennial United States presidential election. During the election both the President and the Vice President of the United States will be elected. In the 2008 election, John McCain is the Republican Party nominee and Barack Obama is the Democratic Party nominee. McCain is the senior US Senator from Arizona and Obama is the junior US Senator from Illinois. One unique aspect of this election is that it is the first time an African American is a presidential candidate of a major party. Another unique thing is that two sitting senators are running against each other for the first time.
